Haematology is a field in medical science that studies the components of blood, blood forming organs and the associated disorders that accompany them. It is concerned with the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of blood diseases including bleeding disorders, blood cancers and hemoglobinopathies, among others. The physicians who specialize in this discipline are called hematologists. They are responsible for performing medical procedures concerning the diagnosis and treatment of a variety of blood abnormalities.
